White Reindeer

If the holidays were a sure-fire way to cure depression by way of consumerism, then let this be the antidote to that rosey-cheeked baloney. As do many of Factory 25’s lineup of films often deal with subverting expectations a little - this one slams it into the proverbial snowbank. While depressing and sometimes a little bleak, it’s still a fascinating take on the Holiday film genre and one that I’d whole-heartedly recommend.

Slipcover is my dealer but really it’s a beaut. Shocking death in beginning no surprise she spirals but the connection she makes after that death is not at all too far fetched because the actors are as naturally good as they are. Recommend!

A dark comedy with a little bit of gloom but also heartwarming at different pts of the film. People react to grief in different ways and this was definitely one way to cope. Well written and acted, and a scene in the third act that rivals the famous scene in Toni Erdmann.

Not much to feel good about. A 30 year old woman who crashes hard in the face of tragedy. Movie never really provided any sort of positive relief. Kind of a bummer of a story.

Solid movie. Great transfer.
