Two Undercover Angels / Kiss Me Monster

This double feature is such a blast. Two Undercover Angels and Kiss Me Monster both have that colorful, stylish, slightly ridiculous Jess Franco energy where spy movie, horror, comedy, striptease, monsters, and Euro-sleaze all somehow end up living in the same universe.

Janine Reynaud and Rosanna Yanni are a huge part of why both movies work. They have great chemistry as the Red Lips, and the whole thing feels playful instead of taking itself too seriously. The second movie gets even weirder with secret societies, zombies, cloning, and bodies piling up, which is exactly the kind of escalation I’m here for.

The release is stacked too. Both films were restored in 4K from their original 35mm camera negatives, and you get English and German audio, alternate extended Spanish versions, multiple Franco interviews, trailers, galleries, and reversible artwork.

And the limited Robert Sammelin slipcover is embossed with spot gloss, which really pushes the presentation over the top. Weird movies, killer art, loaded release — easy 5/5 for me. 😁

Great image. Great artwork. Great movies. It's Franco

Lots of them, wonderful pair of films

Gorgeous restoration work. Legitimately some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The murky old transfers I used to have to sit through? Blown right out of the water. The inclusion of the Spanish versions, though sourced from video, are more than welcome editions. Just wish we could’ve gotten full restorations of those, also, but beggars can’t be choosers. I also feel the lack of any audio commentary work — would have been perfect material for Samm Deighan, John Dixon, or Stephen Thrower. I wish Bizzaro would do some Jess Franco titles — it’d be perfect for them, especially since so many of the best films from the director are OOP from other labels.

Super good and fun double feature for Franco fans that are looking for something to breathe in vetween more symbolically dense features. The definitive edition !
