In the wake of the success of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, maverick Ozploitation auteurs John D. Lamond (FELICITY) and Colin Eggleston (LONG WEEKEND) joined forces on this breezy, tongue-in-cheek, thrill-a-minute, big screen epic inspired by their love of Republic Pictures’ cliffhanger serials.
Boasting exotic location work (including a climactic showdown filmed on Easter Island) and an action-packed, genre-bending plot that includes time warps, UFOs, the Bermuda Triangle and the Philadelphia Experiment – not to mention an aerial dogfight and a RAIDERS-style truck chase – SKY PIRATES is the ultimate old fashioned, fast-moving, two-fisted, pulpy B-movie experience! What’s not to like?
Umbrella Entertainment proudly presents the worldwide high-def debut of this weird and wild Ozploitation rarity with a new 4K transfer from the original 35mm vault materials supervised by cinematographer Garry Wapshott.
John Hargreaves is Flight Lt. Harris – a wisecracking pilot with an addiction for adventure. He teams up with the feisty daughter of a kidnapped clergyman and they hotfoot it across the globe to rescue her father and locate the separated pieces of a powerful, mystical tablet. In pursuit is arch villain Savage (Max Phipps) hell-bent on getting his mitts on “the ultimate power”.

I’m a sucker for Indiana
"I’m a sucker for Indiana Jones knock offs, and this Aussie flick is one of the better ones. A solid villain, exciting action set pieces, and a globe trotting adventure that hits both Easter island and the Bermuda Triangle! Disc has a fair amount of extras including a trailer compilations of Indy knock offs, and the artwork on both the case and slipcover is fantastic!"

A surprisingly fun Indy-«Inspired» adventure
"I went into Sky Pirates expecting a fun Indiana Jones-inspired adventure, and it ended up being better than I expected. It's definitely a product of the wave of Raiders of the Lost Ark imitators from the '80s, but it has enough charm and creativity to stand on its own. As a huge Indiana Jones fan, I spotted a lot of obvious similarities, but it was especially funny to see elements like the time-travel plot in the airplane and underwater sequence that oddly reminded me of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. I guess James Mangold got inspired by a Indy rip-off while writing his Indy movie…? Umbrella Entertainment has done a fantastic job with this release. The restoration looks great, the presentation is excellent, and it's another beautiful edition that gives this underrated adventure film the treatment it deserves. If you're a fan of pulpy '80s adventure movies, this one is well worth checking out."

Sky Pirates
"Being a fan of Indiana Jones inspired films, I was very happy to get this release and wasn’t disappointed with the film. If you like this adventure genre, I would recommend. The picture looks good and the slipcase is nice."

Australian adventure
"Sky Pirates (1986) is a scrappy, energetic slice of Ozploitation adventure cinema—an Australian riff on Raiders of the Lost Ark that mixes supernatural storms, wartime intrigue, and pulp‑serial charm into a proudly low‑budget romp. The film follows Lt. Harris, an airman tasked with transporting a mysterious artifact during WWII, only to be hurled into a Bermuda‑Triangle‑like anomaly and later forced to clear his name after no one believes his story. It blends adventure, sci‑fi, and pulp mystery, complete with time‑distorting storms, Nazi‑esque villains, and globe‑trotting chases."
— Tarek E. (3/5)
Low budget fun
"As it says in the blurb it's inspired by Raiders and The Philadelphia Experiment and it's just as fun as those, although it's lower budget does show in places. Would love to have seen what the film makers could've done with the budgets Spielberg enjoyed."
— Nicholas W. (4/5)
Good Indian Jones knock off
"There were a lot of knock offs of Indiana Jones that came out in the 80’s and a lot of them were actually pretty good. Sky Pirates is a decent entry in this sub-genre. Fun moments in it and a great Brian May score."
— Rene R. (5/5)
Overall packaging with slipcover are
"Overall packaging with slipcover are very nice with fun bonus features included on the disc, especially the Indiana Clones compilation of movie trailers. It's a fun movie in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark in the same way the short lived TV series Tales of the Gold Monkey was."
— Adam K. (4/5)
