Radio Free Steve is the kind of strange rescued indie that makes the VHSHITFEST line fun: a pirate radio host crossing an apocalyptic wasteland while mutants and FCC assassins close in on him. The Road Warrior meets Smokey and the Bandit pitch is honestly perfect, but what sold me is the handmade personality, the oddball cast and the fact that it even has a Boards of Canada track in the mix. The Blu-ray extras, especially the Jules Beesley commentary and interviews, make it feel like a real underground discovery instead of just a curiosity.

Radio Free Steve is a charming and offbeat indie comedy that turns its quirky premise into an enjoyable character-driven experience. Its homemade spirit and eccentric humor give the film a warm, unmistakably underground personality. It’s a sweet little cult gem that rewards viewers who enjoy unconventional stories made with genuine enthusiasm.
