BEST Dutch Folk Horror Movie EVER?

"Fantastic Folk Horror, atmospheric, creepy & beautiful."

                      Hans B. (4/5)

                      For Peat's Sake

"Shudder continues to impress with their Originals and Dutch filmmaker Nico van den Brink’s spine-chilling folk horror Moloch. Set in the fog-shrouded peat bogs of the northern Netherlands, an atmosphere ripe for horror. When the body of a well-preserved corpse is exhumed from a bog by a team of researchers, scientific curiosity (or hubris) is set on a collision course with the region’s dark traditions, also dragging a nearby family into danger. The story unfolds at a slow yet mesmerizing pace as fog rolls through the countryside and cobblestoned streets of the nearby village before the final sprint towards its terrifying conclusion. As usual, Shudder doesn’t give us much in the extras library; just a director commentary, a deleted scene, and a still gallery. Yet they always come through with printed material. The booklet contains two deep diving essays and while the original poster art is a banger, the reimagined artwork on the slipcover is darkly beautiful and spare. Most importantly, the transfer is gorgeous. While it may not reinvent the folk horror wheel, Moloch exceeds expectations despite the timeworn tropes, rising above the bog-standard. Sorry, I’ll show myself out."

                      Scary Dutch digout horror

"Original and pretty scary Dutch movie. Wasn't the biggest fan of the acting, but will definitely recommend this new Shudder horror! The slipcover and the all over quality is as good as you can expect from the fine folks at VS"

                      Martin H. (4/5)

                      Dutch Folk Horror

"Moloch is an atmospheric Dutch folk‑horror that weaves local legend and eerie bogland mystery into a slow‑burn story about a family pulled into something ancient and unsettling. The haunting visuals and strong lead performance help build dread and curiosity, even if the pacing occasionally drags and the plot leans on familiar genre beats. If you’re into horror that favors mood and myth over cheap scares, this is a creepy, memorable watch."

                      Shawn M. (4/5)

                      Spooky

"This movie is steeped in creepy atmosphere. Gripping story, well acted, all accompanied by a chilling, and ominous score. Not a ton of effects, but what is utilized here is excellent. Highly recommend this if you enjoy ghostly stories with bone chilling atmosphere."

                      Ted A. (5/5)

                      Gripping Story

"Wonderful horror film with elements of folk horror that focuses intergenerational trauma between a family that passes from mother to daughter."

"Tells a simple story, in the oh-so fashionable post-A24 slow burn way, but earns its way with a stronghold on corralling engaging performances, masterful use of imagery, and a fucking fantastic music score to create a nicely atmospheric tale that manages to hit even if the basic template is familiar."
