Starts high, chugs along at a mid to low pace for the majority of the runtime and catapults in energy for the last twenty minutes. Lavish 70's homeware and interior design is like champagne for the eyes in 4K. Has an ending that is completely nuts and makes total sense at the same time.

The best way to enjoy Macabre is without knowing anything about it (shame about the cover choice for this release). The movie tells a mysterious story about a woman who had bad luck with love and family (to say the least), and it has a great atmosphere thanks to the curiosity and anticipation of what will happen next. After the movie’s prologue, you know you can expect anything.
The picture looks good, the cast is good, and I consider this probably one of the few perfectly done Lamberto Bava movies. I can’t complain about anything, with some tolerance for the cheesy last scene.
The extras are useful, especially if you’re wondering whether this is a true story. If you like movies such as Roman Polanski’s The Tenant, you will enjoy this. Just forget the cover.

Look, dumb pun aside this is a great piece of Italian horror. Dreamlike, slightly sleazy and unlike anything being made in the US at the time. Great little snapshot of New Orleans too!

One of the best debut horror/thriller films for many of the 80's European masters. Bava's sinister tale of **** and murder helped to put him on the map as one of Italy's top maestros of the genre and from here he set forth to make a large mark on the industry.
Great acting, interesting narrative point of view, and a stellar soundtrack help make this one memorable watch. The only complaint is the box art gives the film away to anyone new, but other then that I'd highly recommend this gorgeous edition of a classic film.
