Demonoid is exactly the kind of weird horror movie I love stumbling across. A cursed severed hand gets unleashed from a Mexican mine and starts possessing people, killing anyone in its way, and generally causing complete chaos. It sounds ridiculous because it is ridiculous — and that’s a big part of the fun.
Samantha Eggar and Stuart Whitman give the movie more weight than you’d expect, but the real star is obviously the evil hand 😂 The kills are nasty, the occult atmosphere works, and the pounding score keeps the whole thing moving.
The Blu-ray/DVD combo is a really nice package too. Vinegar Syndrome restored the film in 2K from the 35mm camera negative, and you also get the longer international Macabra cut, director interview, trailers, TV spot, gallery, and alternate artwork.
Weird, violent, atmospheric, and completely committed to its ridiculous premise. Easy 5/5 for me. 😁

Demonoid is such a perfect slice of early 80s occult sleaze: a cursed severed hand from rural Mexico, Samantha Eggar trying to stop it, Stuart Whitman as a renegade priest and a plot that keeps choosing the wildest possible turn. The evil hand gimmick is ridiculous in the best way, but the violent deaths and pounding score give it real drive. I love that this release includes both Demonoid and the radically different Macabra cut, plus the Alfredo Zacarias interview and trailers. It is exactly the kind of mad, tactile horror oddity VS does so well.
