Awesome collection.

For how absurdly long this and the extra footage for it is, the presentation's thankfully not too compressed and comes with a staggering amount of extra features. The film itself is an acquired taste but I had a good time throughout and honestly felt its runtime less than most ~2 hour long studio films.

Quintessential Vancouver queer film. Great special features, and the booklet of essays was an interesting read.

Castration Movie Anthology I. Traps is one of the most ambitious independent cinema projects I've seen in quite some time. It refuses to follow conventional storytelling, instead creating an experience that is intentionally provocative, challenging, and deeply personal. It's the kind of film that invites discussion long after it ends.

As a creative project, it's remarkably confident in its vision. Every stylistic choice feels deliberate, from the pacing to the visual presentation, making it clear that the filmmakers were pursuing a unique artistic voice rather than broad appeal.

The overall release is excellent. The presentation is clean and thoughtfully assembled, giving a challenging contemporary work the kind of boutique treatment it deserves. It's the type of edition that collectors of independent and experimental cinema will appreciate.

Overall, this is a fearless and unconventional film that won't be for everyone, but viewers interested in boundary-pushing independent cinema will find plenty to admire.

Instant all-time favourite.
