Muscle is a new film distribution company with a heavy repertory slant from historian, programmer, and filmmaker Elizabeth Purchell. Borne out of an understanding of the role that accessibility plays in shaping cultural histories, Muscle is dedicated to complicating and expanding the canon by shining a light on works that either never received their proper due or that have unjustly faded into obscurity, and championing new works by some of today’s most exciting underground filmmakers. Muscle loves scrappy, misfit films that don’t fit into any particular box.

"Why would you do this on purpose?"

Castration Movie is a labyrinthine postmodern epic about gender. Anthology i. Traps includes two chapters.

In Chapter i. Incel Superman, a production assistant named Turner Stewart (Noah Baker) sees his world spiral out of control as he uncompromisingly attempts to shape his life into the one he feels he deserves. In Chapter ii. Traps Swan Princess, a trans sex worker named Michaela “Traps” Sinclair (Louise Weard) finds her relationships becoming increasingly strained as she decides to pursue motherhood.

Written and directed by Louise Weard, Castration Movie Anthology i. Traps features a cast headlined by Louise Weard (Computer Hearts), Vera Drew (The People's Joker), Alice Maio Mackay (The Serpent’s Skin), Cricket Arrison (By Design), Avalon Fast (Camp), John Paizs (Crime Wave), Lea Rose Sebastianis (In a Violent Nature), and Nate Wilson (The All Golden) and an original soundtrack by Ravine Angel, Lex Walton, Magda Baker, and Salem Ahedonia.

    A Triumph

"While I’m saving my ultimate judgment for the eventual full finished project, congrats to Louise Weard and her collaborators for having made something that’s resonated with audiences despite sounding impossibly niche on its surface. Kudos as well to Muscle - looking forward to future releases!"

    Maxim P. (4/5)

    Castration movie

"Muscle have come out swinging with this modern classic, stacked with extras that will take some time to through! Excellent overall release of this meditation on modern trans life. Can’t wait for part 2!"

    Ben C. (5/5)

    Louise Weard is the future

"Beyond refreshing during a modern day hellscape of awful and lifeless films nearly everywhere you turn. Weard is a brilliant and studied cinephile and it shows at every turn. Lo-fi heaven meets actual, worthwhile transgression and most of all, enormous true empathy in spades. Muscle rules, and this is a stellar first release!"

    William M. (5/5)

    Trans Underground Auteur Cinema

"What a solid film from Louise Weard. Don't let the runtime scare you, it goes by quite fast and it's split across two discs if you can't watch in one sitting. Expecting part II on disc very soon. . ."

    Zakaria S. (5/5)

    Great movie, great discs

"This is how I ended up seeing Anthology I for the first time and it looks great! No issues with the discs. The artwork is reversible if you prefer the original cover. Great bonus features. Beautiful work of trans art ❤️🏳️‍⚧️"

    B.A S. (5/5)

    Love seeing people make art

"Love seeing people make art even with miniscule budgets like this and it get the love and care muscle put into the release. Great art, interested in checking out the sequels as they come and more from the label."

    Sam A. (5/5)

    I heard about this movie

"I heard about this movie on a podcast and heard the premise and I thought it sounded very compelling. As long as the film is you really get into the characters and time just flew away. It's like a documentary blended with fascinating. It really isn't like anything I've seen before. I definitely recommend!"

    Bryan K. (5/5)

    Great film

"Looking forward to the other parts. Hoping to catch them in some smaller theaters but I’ll pick them all up either way."

    Brett C. (5/5)

    Castration Movie

"Really interesting movie about trans lives - episode 2 is better, I found the main guy in episode 1 just too annoying. Director/star Louise Weard is excellent in episode 2. The low-res blocky image quality means this might be better watched on a computer monitor than a 50-inch TV."

    Richard B. (4/5)

    Castration Movie

"Such an important and incredible film. Louise Weard is such an important voice in queer and trans cinema. An essential film. Hoping for all subsequent parts of Castration Movie to get releases too. I’ve talked about this movie with my therapist a lot. Am I allowed to write that here? What if nobody sees this? Does anything matter? If you made it this far, you should send fifty dollars to your trans friends, we’ve had a ROUGH time."
