Movie:
Watching this movie frequently felt like I was seeing a worse version of itself. It's most of the way to being great and iconic, but just can't quite get there. The fight scenes have some definite skill, but not enough to really amaze (maybe having blood would've helped?). The titular protagonist is honestly pretty cool, but I think he has too much dialogue and it shows how hard he's _trying_ to be cool, which sort of sours it. The cinematography is surprisingly beautiful at times, the music is pretty solid throughout, but then there's not quite enough of the world or its characters to fully draw you in. And yeah, the kid is really annoying.
Extras:
BTS gallery is fine.
A Garden for Rio:
Overall this is fine, although I just was not in the mood to empathize with the protagonist here. His wife makes some good points; he wasted all their money! Now what will they eat in the Fall?
Vegas Needs a New King. . .
Overall pretty decent making-of doc. Especially paired with the essays in the booklet (from the Vinegar Syndrome release of Six-String Samurai), it give a deeper appreciation for how difficult it was to make the film, which has made me appreciate it more.
Book:
The writings made me appreciate the movie more, considering how difficult it was to make. Also just some neat stories in the making-of.
Packaging:
Really nice, with cohesive artwork, bonus points for reversible (inner) cover, and it's great to have so many layers to go through when you open the movie.
