Abel Ferrara, Harvey Keitel and Madonna makes this Cinématographe release essential. Great limited edition.

Dangerous Game is one of those movies that feels like it’s falling apart while you’re watching it, and that’s exactly what makes it so compelling. Harvey Keitel is intense as ****, Madonna is much better than people give her credit for here, and James Russo brings even more volatility to a movie that already feels like it’s constantly on the verge of exploding.
I really like the way Ferrara blurs the line between the movie being made and the lives of the people making it. The arguments, ***, jealousy, drugs, religion, and ego all start bleeding together until it becomes hard to tell where the performance ends. It’s ugly, uncomfortable, and very deliberately so.
The Cinématographe release is excellent too. The new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative looks natural and film-like, and the supplements are stacked with Ferrara, James Russo, Nancy Ferrara, Joe Delia, Anthony Redman, commentary, and a video essay. The cloth-bound MediaBook and Luke Insect slipcase also make this feel like a proper collector edition.
Not an easy movie, definitely not a clean one, but it gets under your skin. Exactly the kind of strange, confrontational title I want Cinématographe putting out. 😁

- AT70mm MemberAntonio T.Verified Buyer1 month agoRated 5 out of 5 starsI Still Prefer Snake Eyes
Dangerous Game has always been Snake Eyes to me. I saw it at the London Film Festival when it screened under that title, and all these years later it is still the title I prefer. The film itself is raw, uncomfortable, and often deliberately unpleasant, with Harvey Keitel giving the kind of performance that feels like it could come apart at any moment. Ferrara blurs the film being made with the lives of the people making it, and there is a real ugliness to the whole thing that I find difficult to shake. Revisiting it through Cinématographe also brought back that personal connection of having first encountered it at the festival, which inevitably makes this release a little more special to me.
