A double dose of psychotropic anti-time capsules from producer David F. Friedman (Blood Feast) and director Byron Mabe (She Freak)! Billed as "the first Hollywood underground film," The Acid Eaters tells the mind-expanding story of a group of working class swingers (including Pat Barrington, Orgy of the Dead) who drop acid and melt into sex, knife fights, and a literal trip to hell. Then it's time to blast-off with Space Thing, a warped homage to 1960s sci-fi and pulp fiction that follows Col. James Granilla as he hops a flying saucer and enjoys close encounters of every kind with a crew of "space dolls." AGFA and Something Weird are overjoyed to bring these campy Friedman gems to Blu-ray for the first time—"in psychedelic color" and newly restored from their original 35mm camera negatives.

"Space Thing (1968) & The Acid Eaters (1967) bring together two delirious pieces of 1960s underground exploitation cinema. Space Thing is a wild psychedelic sci-fi sexploitation trip, mixing pulp space adventure, flying saucers and outrageous “space dolls”, while The Acid Eaters dives headfirst into counterculture, LSD, sex and increasingly bizarre psychedelic imagery. Together they capture the anything-goes spirit of American exploitation cinema at the height of the 1960s underground film boom. This AGFA / Something Weird double-feature edition, released through Vinegar Syndrome, presents both films together on a single Region Free Blu-ray, restored from their original 35mm camera negatives. The disc also includes archival commentaries with Mike Vraney and David F. Friedman, vintage S-VHS shorts, trailers, a photo gallery, a booklet and English SDH subtitles. Spacer Eaters and The Acid Thing

"If you like tan lines and watching people ride about on motorbikes then The Acid Eaters is the film for you! Broken up by occasional but brief moments of entertainment, the film is about as boring as anything else you're likely to ever see. Space Thing is far more entertaining and although not strictly speaking a masterpiece, relative to The Acid Eaters it certainly could be considered as such. The presentation is superb, with fantastic work done on both films to make them look far better than they would have previously (and frankly better than they deserve!). I know some people enjoy these movies, so I won't labour the point, but be warned they aren't for everyone."

Fun, Colorful & Sexy Exploitation

"I don't know what it is about movies like this that can still titillate and entertain all these years later. Especially with the internet today and access to infinite nudity. I could go on with further thoughts about that, but it would take too long. Anyway, finally a slipcover and art work that doesn't deceive. What you see on the box is what you get - a near parade of constant glorious bosoms - great T & A in these films. The only unpleasant thing is the men. Every man looks like a hairy, knuckle dragging Neanderthal. . . . . . . hehe, enjoy. Also, one more thing, the guy who plays the devil in The Acid Eaters looks (and maybe even sounds a bit) like a young Mel Brooks. And finally, I never stop rambling, do I . . . . . . . I really loved the low budget creativity on display throughout both of these films. That's what makes them charming, coupled with the gorgeous cinematography in real, on site locations where these were filmed. The picture quality is crystal clear and outstanding."
