Quietly sweet and stealthily arresting, this feels stiff and slow at first, but the way it weaves in the charm of the characters and just a whiff of the Amelie-sort of whimsy creeps up on you until you realize you're watching with bated breath for even the simplest of things. Both Beer and Franz Rogowski have a screen presence that makes one pay rapt attention whenever they're on, helping soothe out the pacing hits and slightly lost feeling the final third gets at time.

I am so happy Christian Petzold is represented in the VS world. Big fan of his films. Undine is a strange little story, a modern day telling of the Ondine mermaid tale, it’s mysterious with some beautiful images and great lead performances from Paula and Franz. Fun illustrated slipcover too.
