The Suckling

I remember seeing this on the video store shelf and completely dismissing it for some reason. Boy, that was a mistake! Francis Teri's only feature and it's a real doozy. On the cusp of the 90s this definitely feels like it came from the underbelly of the 80s. Rad f/x, super cynical, what more could you want? Beautifully restored from 16mm, too.

Fun and great restoration.

Just as crazy as the description sounds. Worth checking out the Best of the Worst episode featuring this movie for some laughs.

Definitely not a great movie, but it has a genuinely interesting premise that makes it worth checking out for fans of bizarre '90s horror. The opening, with the mutated fetus lurking in the sewers, is surprisingly disturbing and creates a wonderfully grimy atmosphere. Unfortunately, once the creature turns into a more standard monster, the film loses much of that initial impact, and the rest of the runtime struggles to maintain the same level of interest.

Still, it's a fascinating little oddity for exploitation horror fans, and Vinegar Syndrome's release includes an interesting interview with the director that adds some extra value. Even if the movie itself doesn't quite live up to its premise, it's great to see these obscure horror titles getting releases like this!

One of my favorite trashy (as in story/plot) films to share with unsuspecting friends. The creature effects are stunning (half the budget went into it the creature, and it shows!) for such a low-budget flick. Snag this one without regret!
