"The cover of this very interesting movie is well done with some pretty neat flourishes! The movie was engaging as was the music! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"
"A film about self-discovery, and all the drama that comes with it. Great release for a solid film. Bonus features + cover art create a perfect in-road to a film many probably haven't seen. Feels like a fresh take on the MPDG genre."
"It's a coming-of-age movie about a young woman who steps out of her comfort zone when she takes a job in a sex shop. This new experience leads her to discover herself and question her way of life. Initially very stoic, she gradually flourishes and opens up to others to finally allows a sensitivity she had previously kept hidden inside to express itself. The film uses various means to reveal this hidden sensitivity, including a few magnificent, surreal musical scenes, but far too few in my opinion. The film truly shines during these scenes and would have benefited from fully exploring this direction. Especially since, apart from these few moments, the film uses virtually no music. Because the main character strives for stoicism, this often results in scenes that lack a certain warmth to truly immerse us in the intended emotion. The main character delivers a good performance and still possesses enough charisma to keep us interested. The visuals shots are also often stunning, but a greater use of music would have elevated the film to a higher level. In my view, it would have transformed something very good into something that would resonate deeply within us."
"This was the first Mongolian film I had ever seen, and it made me want to see more. This is a coming-of-age film about a young woman and her new boss, and has some cool stylistic flourishes and great performances."
"Incredible release. I’m so thrilled this Mongolian gem got the beautiful VS partner release treatment!"
"A coming-of-age story between a college student and the woman who mentors her. I refer you to Francis V. 's review. They describe the scenario much better than I could. One note: the subtitles do not disappear until the next person speaks. They just stay on the screen. That's not right."
"Didn't go where I expected but very satisfying. In particular I'm a big fan of the soundtrack showcasing contemporary Mongolian music."
"A fresh, urban Mongolia lands on Blu-ray, far from the prairies, horses, and nomadic camps spectators often expect. I was pleasantly surprised by how light-hearted, provocative, and philosophical the film is, without ever tipping into vulgarity. A top-notch release from Film Movement."
"Nice little drama film. Recommended."
