I personally prefer this remake of The Queen of Black Magic because it looks amazing, it’s more serious and the black magic is not stop cruelty. The quality is crystal clear, the sound is amplified with a decent surround sound system and the case to this movie feels premium with a slip cover as well. I just love that Vinegar Syndrome gave this Indonesian horror movie the premium treatment.

Indonesia continues its wave of genre dominance in terms of foreign horror at the moment, and I'm fine with it. It's probably the only country fully embracing horror aesthetics right now. While we're chasing ghostly jumpscares and cheap Blumhouse bullshit, they're actively shoving grotesque scenes cribbed from nightmares down our throats in service of morality lessons in the ******-up tradition of old fables. Wonderful locations, an intriguing set up, and a visual style that feels glossy but never loses sight of the textures and feel of what it's capturing. The final 45 minutes or so is just a series of horror-show violence that feels like the final sections a haunted house ride.
