Presented in partnership with Something Weird Video...

The American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) represents the world's largest theatrical catalog of exploitation cinema. Their home video line presents a diverse selection of movies, ranging from new preservations of classics from the vast library of Something Weird to the wildest in shot-on-video (SOV) titles. Vinegar Syndrome’s sister company, OCN Distribution, is thrilled to be representing this diverse and unique home video line!

THE MOVIE ORGY is a legendary found footage triumph from Joe Dante—one of genre cinema's most significant masterminds. In 1968, the future director of GREMLINS took an apartment’s worth of 16mm prints and, with the help of producer Jon Davison (ROBOCOP), meticulously created what is quite possibly the world's first found footage megamix. Comprised of commercials, news reels, feature film clips, TV bloopers, and much more, THE MOVIE ORGY is an essential cultural artifact and a psychedelic vortex of mashed-up magnificence. Never available on home video, the film has been preserved from the original 16mm elements by AGFA in partnership with Joe Dante and Jon Davison.

A Miracle

"There are times when a Partner Release will sell out pretty fast due to a variety of factors that don’t always match a film’s quality, and then there’s THE MOVIE ORGY which I’m still shocked lasted as long as it did. Truly a historic bit of preservation. While long, there are parts that go by fast and feel shockingly modern, and a strength that this has over 21st century mashups is how much it utilizes how well cinema can alter time and make you reminisce about something you only saw two hours ago. Makes me want to do a weekend double feature of this and JEANNE DIELMAN, 23 QUAI DU COMMERCE, 1080 BRUXELLES."

Can't believe we got this on blu-ray

"With this legendary curio, Joe Dante essentially invented the "mixtape" of movie and pop culture ephemera. Never thought I'd have a chance to see it legally."

THE MOVIE ORGY

"This was a thing that I'd always heard about but assumed I would never experience. It still seems impossible to me that the Movie Orgy has a home media release, but holy crap, I'm not complaining."

Crazy Clip Show

"Went into this blind after hearing Joe Dante discuss it at a film festival and it did not disappoint. Definitely a strap in and let the movie take you wherever it wants kind of experience."

Classic spice-o-rama

"Amazing early work from Joe Dante and predecessor to stuff like the AGFA and Everything is Terrible mixtapes. This thing is CRAAAZY long, but somehow never wears itself thin. Great stuff."

Finally available on bluray

"As a big Joe Dante film, I always dreamt of seeing this semi-lost movie, showing all his passion about movies. Here's AGFA who's doing the Lord's work, releasing this amazing piece of archives. It's imperfect, too long, but damn it's great to finally hold that missing piece of Joe Dante in my collection."

One of Jie Dantes first

"Was hoping for a little more out of this one. Its a lot if black and white footage of old movies that occassionally stops to tell you to watch movies. A weird little oddity for sure and some of the footage is intersting"

King of Matinées

"The Movie Orgy is one of the earliest and most chaotic works associated with Joe Dante, created alongside Jon Davison. Rather than a traditional narrative film, it’s a sprawling collage of found footage, B-movie clips, commercials, trailers, and television fragments stitched together into a fast-paced, almost hypnotic experience. Originally screened at college events, the film evolved constantly, with Dante re-editing and updating it over time, turning it into a living piece of pop culture satire that captures the sensory overload of media consumption in the late 60s and early 70s. The Blu-ray release from American Genre Film Archive is a remarkable achievement, given the film’s long history as an unofficial, hard-to-see project. AGFA’s restoration assembles one of the most complete versions available, preserving its rough, eclectic nature while making it accessible to a wider audience for the first time in a legitimate format. More than just a curiosity, the release highlights The Movie Orgy as an important precursor to modern remix culture, showing how Dante’s playful, irreverent approach to media laid the groundwork for his later career."

The Movie Orgy

"I have not seen one minute of this 4 hour epic but I am planning a special day to do it in one go. But from what I've seen of the menu disc is that it looks beutiful and is everything I ever wanted. Thank you very much for putting this out for us out there."
