The McPherson Tape

One of the earliest entries into the found footage/mockumentary horror genre and one I do not think I had seen until getting this release. Aliens have been the subject of only a handful of found footage and mockumentary films that I can think of (and some segments in standard films that have taken a similar approach), The McPherson Tape is opposite in budget to something like The Fourth Kind but the beauty of the sub-genre is that budget doesn't matter a whole lot.

The acting is no The Blair Witch Project or Lake Mungo, but is serviceable enough to not be a distraction. The remake (Incident in Lake County) is better made overall but is also missing that authentic home video feel that draws you into the "reality" of the found footage aspect.

The video presentation is about as good as an ultra low budget film shot on tape can look.

THE shot on video ufo flick. I definitely remember people trying to pass this off as real ufo footage when it made its rounds as a bootleg. fun watch. rough footage.

This is a really early example of the found-footage alien genre, so it feels more like a home video than a movie. It moves a bit slow, but it's a neat watch if you're interested in how these kinds of horror films started out.

This was always an obscure movie to get your hands on

This movie works best in the found footage format in a used looking low grade print, BUT it's great to finally have it in such as nice presentation !

This is one of the best found footage films, and one of the earliest examples of the genre. There’s a director’s cut, but seeing the original cut is the best way to view the film.
