From nudies to roughies to ultra weird regional curiosities, the sexploitation world welcomed any filmmaker working in any genre, so long as the limits of nudity and sex on screen were pushed as far as they could go - but never all the way. DISTRIBPIX, one of the legendary names in the genre (and whose extensive library will be the backbone of this line), will offer single, double, and even triple feature Blu-rays highlighting works from every corner and crevice of softcore smut, from the dawn of nudie cuties to the all-but-hard 70s, with plentiful lost and never on disc films along the way.
The transitional era of the early 1970s was a trying time for the makers of softcore features, as hardcore slowly overtook the decade-long demand for every flavor of sexploitation. Although soft-X material did remain moderately bankable, many of these efforts appeared overly tame for their day and vanished as quickly as they were produced, all too often becoming forgotten, abandoned, or otherwise lost to time. Presented here are three very distinct, striking examples of long-believed lost sexploitation cinema, all produced in New York in the early '70s, and at last resurrected and restored in 4K for their home video debuts.
In SIDEWALK COWBOY (1970), a wayward young man enters a spiral of sexual confusion and misfortune as he's abused, debased, molested, and taken advantage of by man and woman alike in this bent riff on Midnight Cowboy. Directed by the great producer Robert Sumner (Take Off, The Nesting), it makes great use of many of the lyrical streetscapes of Manhattan, as well as the prolific Linda Boyce (The Curse of her Flesh).
A square middle-aged couple accidentally discover Screw Magazine in FUN AND GAMES (1972), which takes them on an outrageous journey of sexual liberation through all manner of freaks and hustlers (and one very angry cop) in New York's free love scene. Helmed by acclaimed Broadway writer/director Mervyn Nelson and featuring Casey Donovan (as Cal Culver) in an early role, this sprawling underground comedy was initially distributed by Radley Metzger!
Driven mad from a brutal assault during her college years, a young woman and her simpering, bloodthirsty admirer embark on a sex-fueled murder spree in 1974's absolutely bonkers HAPPILY EVER EVER! Starring Mary Mendum (The Image) in one of her most impressive performances, strikingly photographed by João Fernandes (Invasion U.S.A.), and written & directed by Ron Wertheim (Through the Looking Glass), this genuinely unnerving and often disturbing genre treasure is long overdue for cult classic status.

"This is a great release. The picture quality is amazing and we get a whole bunch of extras including a great audio by Casey Scott who sure knows his stuff. Any Michael Findlay release is welcome in my book and this one has some great shots of Coney Island in the 1960s courtesy of Roberta Findlay. Love this sleazy gem a must by. "Michael Findlay's work sits right on the intersection of pornography and grindhouse cinema. While not as bracing as his "Flesh" trilogy, The Ultimate Degenerate and A Thousand Pleasures show Findlay continuing to develop and push the boundaries of his cinematic niche. The Vinegar Syndrome Blus look absolutely great (especially considering the source elements), and the set is loaded with great special features."

"These were my first Michael Findlay films. I found Findlay's storytelling too slow-paced, with many scenes feeling repetitive and drawn out. A Thousand Pleasures was the standout film, with the second half proving to be the most engaging portion. I appreciate it as slice of 60s exploitation cinema, but overall it never really clicked with me. Hilliard's box art is excellent."

These are not for everyone, but they are well presented and the transfers are as good as it gets for these film. . . so they look good. The fact that they are black and white makes them better. Not for the faint of heart but they are an interesting view of a sub-genre of exploitation films."
