Quiet, nasty, and seriously uncomfortable
"The Killing Kind is a different kind of exploitation movie. It’s not loud or flashy — it just gets under your skin. John Savage is really unsettling as Terry because he never feels like a cartoon psycho. He comes across damaged, bitter, and increasingly dangerous, which makes the whole thing feel uglier and more believable. Ann Sothern is great too, and the relationship between Terry and his mother gives the movie this suffocating atmosphere that kept me uncomfortable the whole time. Curtis Harrington really lets the tension build instead of rushing to the violence, and when things finally turn nasty, it hits harder because of that slow burn. The 2K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative looks excellent, with nice film texture and strong detail, and the archival Harrington material adds a lot of value to the disc. Not exactly a “fun” watch, but a really effective one. Creepy, mean, and way more psychologically nasty than I expected. Definitely worth having in the collection."
