Nazi-occupied Romania, 1941: In a small and gloomy village hidden deep in the mountains, German troops have arrived to lay siege. Although warned by the townspeople to stay out of a mysterious and ornately carved structure known only as “The Keep,” two arrogant soldiers ignore their orders and break into the obelisk, hoping to find stowed treasure, but instead unleash an ancient evil force which, with each new victim, grows stronger and more powerful. After suffering large casualties at its hands, Captain Klaus Woermann is informed that the only person who might be capable of defeating this monstrous and demonic entity is an elderly Jewish historian named Dr. Theodore Cuza, who is being held captive with his daughter in a concentration camp...

The legendary horror spectacle from director Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice), adapted from genre writer F. Paul Wilson’s New York Times best-selling novel, THE KEEP is a mesmerizing visual feast of supernatural terror enhanced by a remarkable original score by Tangerine Dream (Sorcerer) along with jaw-dropping special effects by Nick Maley (Superman, Lifeforce). Starring Scott Glenn (The Hunt for Red October), Jürgen Prochnow (David Lynch’s Dune, Das Boot), Alberta Watson (Hackers), and two-time Oscar® nominee Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings film franchise), Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to at last offer the 4K UHD and Blu-ray debut of this highly sought-after and long unavailable cult film classic, newly restored for this release from its original camera negative and featuring exclusive new interviews with cast and crew revealing the fascinating production history of this one-of-a-kind cinematic experience.

Reviews

The Keep (VSR)

"A gorgeous 4K release, couldn´t resist to double dip as I liked this design better. Great edition of a somewhat troubled film."

Hansi L. (5/5)

A lost gem

"Glad to see that this film has returned to thr light of day. Troubled as it was in production, and as unhappy with the result as the filmmakers and author may be, rhe film itself has some exceptional moments and great performances that deserve to be seen and remembered."

Justin E. (4/5)

The Keep

"There’s a lot of lore surrounding The Keep, as both a movie and as a Vinegar Syndrome release. I didn’t get an original copy so I was excited to find out about the VSR with new artwork. Overall, this is a unique but tragically flawed movie. The production is incredible; anything filmed in the keep itself feels immersive as if I was really there. The beginning of the movie is mysterious and intriguing. It starts off so strong and it all unravels by the end. The score by Tangerine Dream is also fantastic and adds an even more fanatical element to the film. The special features are plentiful. Artwork, slipcover and booklet are excellent. Great release."

Steven C. (4/5)

I love The Keep!

"This atmospheric early Michael Mann flick has a unique style and an engaging story. Definitely a standout movie from Vinegar Syndrome. Picture quality and bonus features are fantastic and the packaging on this one rocks! Highly recommend adding this one to your collection!!"

Matthew M. (5/5)

Beautiful packaging

"Michael Mann’s The Keep finally gets a 4K presentation that does justice to its atmosphere, texture, and Tangerine Dream haze in a way previous releases never quite managed. Glad I held out for a proper presentation and didn’t cave to scalper prices, because this is the version that finally makes the film click."

Shane P. (5/5)

A must own!

"I definitely have not followed my rules on double dipping this year, this is the 3rd copy of this that I own now. I had to pick up this limited retail version as the metallic slip box looks gorgeous! Both of the releases are have a really nice presentation. I’m just glad we finally have this on a decent release now."

james b. (5/5)

Lost Classic

"Great to have this back in circulation. I remember seeing this back when it came to theaters and how much we loved it. VS has really done a great job with this release."

Anthony B. (5/5)

The Keep : A Must Have Purchase

"The Keep is a cult classic which deserves to be in everyones collection. The transfer is outstanding and also on par with Umbrella's release which I also own. You did have the option to choose between two hardbox versions of this movie depending on your selection of which version to purchase. Regardless of which copy you prchase, both are outstanding ."

Phil P. (5/5)

Exquisite Packaging!

"No Wonder Michael Mann disowned this dog. What the studio released is shit."

Doug B. (5/5)

Great presentation of a very average movie

"The Keep is very interesting as a study in film making and studio intervention, but as a film to watch and enjoy it is sadly lacking. With that said, VS has done a great job putting together this package and presented the movie as well as it ever has been and is probably likely to be. There are plenty of extras included too, so if you're a fan of the movie or just curious about it then you could do a lot worse than buying this release."
