The Illegal Immigrant

This film came out in 1985, but just as easily could in 2026;just have to switch a couple things. Immigration has always been an issue for many Americans, and this film highlights so much that can translate to today. Only difference is social media being used to spread garbage faster and more efficiently. Everyone has a story about how they ended up in America.

Good to see another film from the director of autumns tale, great film and release hard to find before this

A film that portrays the lives of Chinese immigrants in New York, the harassment they face from immigration authorities, the constant fear of being deported—which ultimately leads to a marriage of convenience in order to obtain a green card.

Of course, it’s not quite as depressing as it sounds here; there are flashes of humor here and there, and there’s no shortage of romance.

I didn’t really warm up to the movie. Don’t get me wrong—it’s definitely worth watching—but for me, it was a bit too predictable. All in all, though, I was pretty well entertained, and just seeing the authentic Chinatown in mid-1980s New York alone made it all worth it. If I had to give it a score, I’d still give the movie a solid 7/10.

Great restoration and wonderful release.

Really truly loved this
