Steeped in controversy, unflinching, unforgettable. Dekanolog is proud to present Asia Argento’s adaptation of J.T. Leroy’s best selling novel The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, a searing exploration of trauma and survival in the underside of America’s heartland. Headlining one of the most intriguing casts of the 2000s, which includes Peter Fonda, Ornella Muti, Jeremy Renner, Lydia Lunch, Ben Foster, and Winona Ryder, Argento stars as Sarah, a woman who rips her son (played at various points by Jimmy Bennett, Dylan, and Cole Sprouse) out of foster care and throws him into her transient life as a sex worker at truck stops. Leroy was later revealed to be a fabrication of author Laura Albert and her sibling-in-law Savannah Knoop, a story that broke the year after The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things was released. Argento’s
blistering second feature finds real pain in a historic hoax, traveling to dark places most directors fear to tread.

"Hard to watch!"
"Written, directed, and starring Asia Argento. Another Asia Argento movie that requires research by the viewer that is helped significantly by watching the commentary. Although the movie appears to be very confusing, it is highly edited and skillfully done. Nice blu-ray transfer with great packaging."
"Just ok"
"Great to see Asia following her father and becoming a director. Great performances, nice picture quality and a nice little package of extras. And lovely slipcover Definitely a big fan of Asia argento"
"An excellent film. Great video and audio presentation."
"There’s plenty of backstory to this film that may justifiably turn people off, and I think of it as an oddity more than anything else."
"Be still my heart. . . Asia Argento"
"Really bleak and depressing film but beautifully made. Really shows of Asia Argento’s talent behind the camera as well as what she can achieve in front of it. This was an immediate purchase for me!"
"I picked this up primarily because I'm an Asia argento fan. I was surprised as to how good the movie actually was. And how stacked the cast is. The slipcover gave great punk rock show poster vibes. The movie is a hard watch but well worth your time."
"Fascinating and compelling drama."
