The Grave

The Grave is a weird little mix of crime movie, black comedy, and Southern Gothic that I had a lot of fun with. It has a great cast of familiar faces, a suitably sweaty and grubby atmosphere, and the whole thing gets increasingly strange as everyone becomes obsessed with finding buried money. It is dark, funny, occasionally nasty, and never quite goes where I expected it to. I am surprised this one isn't talked about more, because it has plenty of personality. Another really enjoyable VS discovery.

Fun ride with faces you know, the twist is cool also

Movie:

Nice little crime thriller, although I'm not sure why this is tagged horror. The included songs combined with the escaped convicts in the South were giving O Brother, Where Art Thou? The set-ups and payoffs here are pretty solid, and it's always nice to see Keith David.

Extras:

Several great little interviews, many of whoch have funny editing touches, e. g. including some bloopers. Also always nice to have the trailer.

Packaging:

Bonus points for reversible cover, and it looks nice on both sides. The poster is also a great addition.

While the acting and cinematography are consistently strong, the film’s deliberate pacing kept me at a distance for much of its runtime. That said, the ending delivers an interesting twist that adds some welcome bite. Even if it didn’t fully click for me, this is a well-presented release that genre fans may appreciate more than I did.
