Irina is a teacher in the middle of a messy divorce with her husband, Roberto, who has cunningly stolen the pharmaceutical company she was set to inherit. She's also dealing with a rat problem. A rat so large and terrible it has mutilated her dog. Enlisting the help of her new love interest and biologist friend, Axel, they soon discover that Roberto has been recklessly dumping nuclear waste to get ahead and wreaking havoc on the nearby wildlife. Now Irina has to contend with a mutated rat in her home and her soon-to-be ex who will do anything to keep his secret.
In one of his last horror films, director Rubén Galindo Jr. (DON'T PANIC, CEMETERY OF TERROR) delivers a vision of an apocalyptic near-future Mexico, where the environment has become a wasteland. Citizens can't go outside without a ventilator, acid rain alerts blast from the loud speakers and almost all wildlife is on the verge of extinction. Throwing science fiction, horror, action and melodrama into a genre blender, Vinegar Syndrome Active is proud to present THE DEMON RAT (aka Mutantes del año 2000, La rata maldita), newly scanned and restored in 2k and presented here in its worldwide Blu-ray debut.

This was another rare find that I couldn't find anywhere else. Although this movie is not dubbed in English, it does have English Subs and is a very entertaining movie.

Sad that I missed out on the original release, but at least I finally got to see it now thanks to the media club rewards system.
- IM70mm Memberivan M.Verified Buyer4 months agoRated 5 out of 5 starsIt is the **** Demon Rat.
I had finally completed my collection of Ruben Galindo Jr. I have all four films released by Vinegar Syndrome. I am still waiting for them to release at least two more of his films. There are two more horror films he directed and I hope to add to my collection some day.
- ML35mm MemberMichael L.Verified Buyer7 months agoRated 4 out of 5 starsLow budget Mexicana!
Got it free with VMSC points, which probably made it more enjoyable. Low budget sci fi thrills in it's original Spanish. Worth a double feature with ****'s Trap from a few years earlier (and from VS)

I got this little gem from the rewards program on the site, the standard edition. I haven't watched it yet, but I'm glad to get an exclusive like this.
