Sweet Sugar is exactly the sort of women-in-prison exploitation film I want it to be. It is sleazy, violent, ridiculous, and completely unapologetic about what it is, but there is also a lot of energy and humor running through it. Phyllis Davis is terrific as Sugar and gives the film far more personality than I was expecting. I particularly liked how defiant she remains no matter what gets thrown at her. It is trashy cinema, absolutely, but really enjoyable trashy cinema, and I had a great time with it. Another VS release that reminds me why I have such a soft spot for this stuff.

Good restoration, Phyllis Davis looks stunning and the story is quite bonkers, but it wasn't much to my taste. Extra star for Phyllis appraring nude a couple of times.

I'm personally not a big fan of "women in prison" films, but this is my favorite by a mile. Really enjoyed the characters and performances, and of course there are some b-film laughs. As always the transfer and quality that VS present here is awesome.
