Set during the height of the Vietnam War and deep in the swamps of Louisiana, a group of National Guardsmen have been ordered to partake in a simulated jungle exploration in an isolated part of Cajun country. After getting lost during the training mission, the soldiers commandeer canoes belonging to the locals in order to take a shortcut. When the rightful owners discover the soldiers with their property, the situation spirals out of control leaving one man dead and the soldiers caught in a deadly game of retribution. What follows is a bloody fight for survival as, with only their wits and blanks for ammunition, the soldiers will have to journey deeper and deeper into the bayou as they’re forced to face the brutal reality of Cajun justice...

A Tense Survival Thriller
"The 4k Southern Comfort release is brighter and more natural looking compared to the Blu ray version. If you re still skeptical there are Youtube content creators who took both versions of the film and placed them side by side. Vinegar Syndrome did a fantastic job cleaning up the film. Southern Comfort 4K trumps the blu ray version and it’s the best the movie has ever looked on physical media."

My favourite Walter Hill film
"Timothy Evans’s review published on Letterboxd: Tersely eloquent about the incompetence of machismo turned inward like friendly fire, the arrogant delusion of the superiority of American firepower, and the security of military rank and file; which like everything else, is quickly swallowed whole by the sinking, squelching, ever-shifting swamp—an exquisitely rendered, hellish liminal space that feels like a mythically bubbling maze with no way out. The Vinegar Syndrome 4K brings this to vividly new and unpleasantly textured life. This land of the dead location that feels not of this world, while being populated by degenerate, back woods hunters we recognize, is as much reminiscent of Tarkovsky’s Stalker as it is its most readily apparent comparable, Deliverance. Impeccable ensemble casting. Keith Carradine’s career run at this time was a truly legendary hot streak. My favourite Walter Hill film. The packaging on this re-release is way better than the original release in my eyes, with more evocative imagery"
