This special limited edition 3-disc 4K UHD/2 x Blu-ray set comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Luke Insect and Johnny Ryan), includes a 40-page perfect bound book and is limited to 7,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

When rookie New York City policeman Harry Griswold ends up in the middle of a shootout while attending an evening of kabuki theater, his attempt to save the life of a critically injured performer yields unintended consequences. The dying man bestows his supernatural powers onto Harry, thus rendering him “The Chosen One.” Suddenly finding himself sprouting paper umbrellas and covered in face paint, the formerly clumsy cop is transformed into a crime-fighting superstar, with the help and training of Lotus, daughter of the deceased actor. But Harry’s new gifts also come with a fresh calling as he learns that he alone has the power to defeat the ancient “Evil One” and foil his diabolical plans for bloodthirsty world domination.

From Lloyd Kaufman & Michael Herz, creators of The Toxic Avenger, comes a different kind of superhero: SGT. KABUKIMAN N.Y.P.D! Mixing high-stakes action, spectacular car stunts, monstrous mutants, and Troma’s signature style of madcap gore and hilarious hijinx, this outrageous late-night TV and video store classic features a who’s who of cult stars, including Joe Fleishaker (Troma’s War), Bill Weeden (Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV), and Rick Gianasi (Robot Holocaust) as Harry Griswold. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present this colorful live-action comic book on 4K UHD, newly restored from its 35mm camera negative and presented in its totally uncensored director’s cut as well as its more commonly seen alternate PG-13 version, and featuring an abundance of both new and archival interviews and BTS material.

Super fun Troma action

"I always loved Sgt Kabukiman man, so you can bet I had to get my hands on this beautiful 4K hardbox edition from Vinegar Syndrome. This is a classic from the Troma library. I'm happy to have this in my collection."

Branden Y. (5/5)

Sgt. kabukiman NYPD

"This might be my favorite Troma movie it’s bonkers of course but has an awesome New York setting and a decent budget behind it great transfer and some fun special features"

Hunter D. (4/5)

Definitive edition

"KABUKIMAN has never been one of my preferred Tromites, so a fair chunk of the 5/5 rating is for the release itself. Troma's early history of BD releases wasn't great, so this 4K boost is revelatory (as with the 4Ks for THE TOXIC AVENGER quadrilogy). Despite not being in love with the character, upgrades for titles that languished on video & DVD are irresistible to me, and this one shows why. Beautiful image, great sound, a beautiful package & plenty of supplements, both old & new. Whether I like it or not, I'm sure my opinion of the film will perk up a bit now that I can really see what went went into it. Really glad to have this edition on my shelf."

Isaac W. (5/5)

Troma Rules

"There's just something about this one that keeps me coming back. And the artwork and packaging is killer. Definitely one of my favorite Troma flicks."

Shane R. (5/5)

Very cool design and Art

"Very cool design and Art for slipcover. Cool funny Art work on other slipcover. Awesome features alot to check out. A+++ for this release and as always great work from Vinegar syndrome"

Michael A. (5/5)

Kabukiman

"Looks great. One of my favourite Trona films. Good special features. Kabukiman is New York's late 80's hero"

Edward K. (5/5)

KABUKIMAN SANJO!!

"Troma's Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD gets the royal treatment with this 4k release featuring 3 cuts of the film and a monkey riding a jaguar's worth of special features. The 4k transfer is crisp and the packaging features cool new kabuki/clown artwork and of course the original art on the reverse side of the sleeve. I wasn't crazy about the yellow slip on the more expensive version, so I got the standard edition."

Ron C. (4/5)

More Troma goodness!

"Man, VS knows how to pump out the Troma! I honestly never thought I would see Sgt. Kabukiman in 4k, but it’s gorgeous. Definitely an upgrade from previous releases."

Such an elusive film, it's finally in my collection. . .

"Beautiful art-work. . . and hopefully a really fun 'feature length' film! Having been a bit of a fan of Troma films over the years, I've somehow skipped over watching this film, for one reason or another! I can't say that I ever saw it at a rental store, or readily available to purchase anywhere, mainly when I was seeking out random films to buy! It was always advertised with such a catchy looking trailer on damn near all of my many Tromaville films, on VHS or DVD! So, hopefully now I will finally get to watch it in its full length version, as it was probably intended, had I found it in the wild. . . back in the day!"

Troma Nonsense Superhero

"This was completely wild. The superhero motif was great despite the fact that the hero here is more like a bumbling fool. The transfer looks beautiful and I was happy to pick it up in person at the Pittsburgh location instead of waiting for shipping from the website. The crew couldn't stop laughing with this one. Highly recommended."
