Feels like it's working out some kind of potentially searing off-Broadway play for the kind of middle-aged Manhattanites that used to exist but ends up closer to Tommy Wiseau. There's better acting, but the melodrama and inability to end the film concisely with what I can only describe as a visual run-on sentence; something I'm quite familiar with, obviously.

I think I like what Twiss is trying to do more than I like the actual movies. Both are a 6/10 for me, with different factors leading to my rating. The slick cover image for each (not the great slipcover) is a little misleading, in that both these movies have a much more homemade feeling. And I like that aspect of them. I'm also glad someone's working on movies like this now; Twiss seems to be having fun taking the reins & I hope she continues.

The slipcover of this very interesting release definitely fits the bill! This double feature is definitely way out there and quite different from anything I have ever seen. The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!
- THThomas H.Verified Buyer5 months agoRated 5 out of 5 starsProvocative Anthology Exploring Desire and Boundaries
Sapiosexual & Taboo: Family is an anthology that leans heavily into controversial and transgressive themes, exploring the intersections of intellect, desire, and forbidden relationships. Each segment pushes boundaries in different ways, aiming to provoke as much as it intrigues.
The film thrives on discomfort, often prioritizing shock and taboo over narrative cohesion. Some segments are more effective than others, with a few offering genuinely interesting psychological angles, while others feel more exploitative than insightful.
It’s a challenging watch by design, likely to divide audiences. Those open to experimental, boundary-pushing storytelling may find elements to appreciate, but its confrontational approach won’t resonate universally.
