A hauntingly effective folk horror that masterfully builds dread through minimalist storytelling and chilling atmosphere, delivering a tense and memorable descent into myth and fear.

An eerie and atmospheric folk horror film from Malaysia, this tale of a family living deep in the jungle and going against an unnamed and unknown force of evil is an engaging watch, despite a pace that people would often describe as slow-burn. Great acting all around, with super extra points for the gorgeous slipcover!

Roh ('Soul') reminded me of The Witch. It follows a rural family who rescue a girl lost in the jungle. Once she is part of their home, the girl warns them that death will come for the family at the next full moon, triggering a spiral of curses, witchcraft and strangers who may or may not be the death the child has predicted. . . Visually stunning, Roh takes its time, ramps up the feelings of dread, and comes highly recommended.
