Description

Lebanon at the end of the 80s. Ghassan Salhab’s debut follows Khalil as he returns to Beirut under a new identity, forced to confront the old friends and comrades he left behind following his faked death a decade earlier. Phantom Beirut is a haunting exploration of the official silences and collective amnesias that stalk the lives of those who live through conflict.

    Must watch 90s Lebanese classic

Before I bought this disc, I’d heard great things about Phantom Beirut from a friend. So glad I bought it and watched it. Now I’m also recommending it to everyone.

    Great film!

Late in the 1980s it seems like the Lebanese conflict will never end. Khalil returns to Beirut after many years. Ten years earlier, during a battle, he took advantage of the confusion and pretended he was dead.

    Fascinating and harrowing

The notion that real bullets are flying in the background during filming is terrifying. A must see.
