Pales In Comparison
"This is a remake of a Danish film. It has a great cast, and it follows the original incredibly well. It has the same director and writer along with a co-write from Stephen Soderbergh, but it just doesn't compare to the original. I can't put my finger on why it didn't work for me. Nick Nolte was miscast in this one, and some of the acting was very hammy. I would just watch the superior original film."

Great hidden 90s gem!
"I bought this as a blind buy while the trailer really had me intrigued. This proved to be a great decision! Noghtwatch has a definitive 90s feel, but also has the makings of a genuine creepy late night thriller sprinkled with some neo-noir flavor. Overall a great movie presented in stunning quality"

Good film, great transfer!
"Not every catalog title receives this kind of treatment, which makes releases like this especially appreciated. I got this as a blind buy, and while I thought the film was just “good” I am so glad to own it in this substantial package! The film looks magnificent, sounds great, excellent bonus features, and the flick has been packaged with the kind of attention that collectors notice immediately."

Nightwatch
"Nightwatch is a movie that tows the line of murder thriller and psychological horror that comes in a rather middling package that leaves you neither satisfied in either aspect. There are often strong segments where the tension of the dark, close atmosphere of the mortuary and Martin's dilapidating mental health makes you feel the horror, yet constantly there is also moments where unnecessary music segments, an odd public handjob or just the fact the story still pushes forward in it's murder mystery plot that you never get captured in the darkness of it all."

Surprisingly written by Soderbergh, shot by GDT regular Dan Lausten, and edited by Sally Menke
"Nightwatch is a solid psychological crime thriller with very committed performances across the board, primarily from a very young and against type role from supporting Josh Brolin. And every character here is a little off—as one would be working the night shift especially at a morgue), ranging from Brolin’s asshole pranks, McGregor’s late studies, Nick Nolte’s grizzled grunts, Brad Dourif’s random check ins, to even John C. Reilly. It's fascinating to me how fast this American remake was greenlit and made, only 3 years after the original, doubly so in a period where Dimension was riding the coattails of Scream. Good work from Steven Soderbergh’s writing to keep you guessing as the mystery unfolds, amplified by Dan Lausten’s vital dimly lit cinematography in liminal halls and rooms. I can see why GDT loves working with him so much, as he knows how to actually shoot scenes in the dark: a lost art form. And since we're discussing some behind the camera elements, I'd be remiss not to bring up that this film is edited by thee Sally Menke as well! There's a lot going on with the production of the film, and I'm curious to check in with the BTS on the VS bonus disc and 40-page booklet."

Nightwatch 4k
"Terrific late 90’s thriller with enough chills and scares for horror lovers! Great cast too! This 4K upgrade is amazing! The black levels and deep and black enhancing the moody cinematography! Highly recommended!"
