Night Owl

A very cool picture that should be in more conversations about the best vampire filcks of the 80's.

A vampire in the East Village picks up women, and while having *** with them kills them and drinks their blood. Meanwhile, a young Puerto Rican guy begins searching the Village for his sister, who is one of the vampire's victims.

"Night Owl" is an old VS release from back in the day when there were no sub- or partner labels. Although there are Horror elements (Vampires), this is very much an arthouse film. So today this would much likely be released under the VSL banner.

I love underground arthouse films shot on 16mm black and white, so this was right up my alley. It is very much a mood piece, so don't expect a suspsenful vampire plot. You should watch this for its early 90s shots of the most run-down corners of NYC. Plus a very young John Leguizamo shows up, but not for too long (if I remember correctly).

It's a 2-Discer with the same contents on a Blu-Ray and a DVD. The director Jeffrey Arsenault (who is still directing mostly Vampire movies) was heavily involved with this release, contributing a commentary and an interview. There's also a chat with our main actor and archival one with Arsenault.

An enjoyable film.

Not bad
