Not my favourite Fulci film
"Not my favourite Fulci film but not terrible either. Of course the highlight is the cheesy 80s montages. Release is absolutely stacked with lots of extras, nice artwork, and a hard case. PQ and AQ was also quite good."

Candice Norman operates the hottest dance academy in town, with hoards of hopefuls dying to be admitted, maybe literally. Shortly after a trio of new students are accepted into Candice’s tutelage, a young female pupil is found murdered on campus, stabbed through the heart with a long pin. With the backbiting staff and students alike all rendered possible suspects, Candice is also plagued by haunting dreams involving a sinister man. When Candice spots this man's face on a billboard, she decides to track him down, while yet another rising dance starlet winds up with a punctured heart. Is this handsome stranger as dangerous as the man in her dreams? Could a bloodthirsty maniac from outside the school be preying upon the dancers? Or has the intense competition between dancers and staff turned one of them into a depraved killer? And how does Candice herself factor into this shocking mystery?
Director Lucio Fulci’s (City of the Living Dead, The Beyond) final giallo and also his final film set in New York City, MURDEROCK (Murderock - Uccide a passo di danza), is amongst the maestro's last truly lavish productions, boasting stylized dance numbers (scored by legendary musician Keith Emerson) and surreal dream sequences between its labyrinthine mystery and gruesome killings. Starring Olga Karlatos (Zombie), Ray Lovelock (Autopsy), Claudio Cassinelli (Slave of the Cannibal God), Cosimo Cinieri (The New York Ripper), and featuring a guest appearance from Silvia Collatina (The House by the Cemetery), Vinegar Syndrome proudly brings this late period giallo classic to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, exclusively restored from its 35mm camera negative and boasting an unparalleled selection of new and archival extras, including the first-ever interview with co-writer Gianfranco Clerici (Cannibal Holocaust), amongst many others.

"The Scorpion Bluray already looked quite nice (the photography will always look a little bit dreamy and soft), this is a welcome upgrade in a very sparkling edition. The film itself might be called a mixed bag by some because of the completely dry nature of the kills. If you're the guy who made nipple slicing possible on screen, the insertion of needle pins to kill a victim looks comparably stale. No matter, as the true visual prowess of Fulci and his team gets a workout (ahem) here with a giallo that's partly '80s music video and all stylish mayhem. The amount of extra's is great, the slipcover too, though I wish they also included subs for the English dialogue."
"For a Fulci movie that was languishing on DVD, vs has given us the definitive edition of Murder Rock and I can't be the only one who is very thankful. Gorgeous restoration, superb special features and maybe my favorite artwork of any release y'all have done. A fucking +"
"For my full detailed review of Murderock, see my entry on Letterboxd: @M4N14K Absolutely fantastic artwork and a GLORIOUS transfer and treatment for this obscure addition to the Fulci filmography. I viewed this film on the Murderock Vinegar Syndrome 4K Limited Edition physical media release and it is the same great premium level of packaging and presentation that you’ve come to expect from the special releases of this boutique label. No other brand beats Vinegar Syndrome at the cardboard game and this great slipcover is no exception to the consistently fantastic artwork and component quality this company produces."
"This giallo film directed by Lucio Fulci has it all. The film is filled with creepy kills, rocking dance scenes, gorgeous women, and beautiful atmospheric shots. Vinegar Syndrome's packing and art are beautiful and so is the transfer."
"Beautiful slipcase artwork for a Fulci I’ve never seen. I have been trying to fill my Fulci blind spots and I didn’t see any better way to do it than picking up this beautiful release."
"The slipcover is awesome, as always with anything VS or their awesome partner Labels release! It is a cool movie that was a lot of fun to watch! I always love the unique VS service of allowing you to stack as many movies as you like in your cart during any release period and ship them for free! The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"
"Love this one from VS… Not the goriest Fulci, but definitely a grimey good time. Love watching Claudio Cassinelli in gialli and poliziotteschi’s… As for the VS special edition it is BEAUTIFUL. The limited edition sports one of the coolest matte/gloss slip covers in my collection and the accompanying booklet is an extra treat as well."
"Fulci completists rejoice! An oddball entry in an already weird filmography, Murderock has arrived on UHD and Blu in a gorgeous rigid case and slipcover combo, perfect bound book included. Some may point to this as the beginning of Fulci’s 80s decline but I disagree. (Looking at you, Manhattan Baby. ) I enjoy it for what it is: a fun, sleazy time capsule of the early 80s jazz dance craze starring Olga Karlatos (Prince’s Purple Rain mom) and complete with leg warmers, spandex crotches, and soundtrack of pulsating…songs the budget could afford. VinSyn gives this ‘lesser’ Fulci work the loving attention it deserves. The spot gloss design on the hardbox is exquisite, as is the artwork inside and out. Having only seen before a substandard VHS rip, I was thrilled to see every bead of sweat on the cleavages of these dancing beauties. AC from Troy Howorth along with tons of cast and crew interviews round out the package. Not recommended for the casual fan but for Fulci completists it's a trashy good time on the dancefloor. With jazz hands."
"This curious effort from Lucio Fulci is a blast in terms of a New tentative of storytelling, not Gore soaked but a return to his giallo roots. Tons of extras and a very nice slipcase along with a 4k restoration makes of this edition a must for all the godfather of gore fans!"
