Concerned that their latest production isn’t scary enough for modern audiences, the makers of a trashy horror movie titled Dirty Blood call in a spirit medium to host a seance for the cast and crew, hoping this will add a little authenticity to the proceedings. However, the producers get a little more than they bargained for when the medium inadvertently summons the spirit of the notorious Victorian-era serial killer Jack the Ripper. As filming presses on, the real horror commences when various members of the production start winding up brutally murdered. Could this be the ongoing work of a sadistic maniac who’s been preying on prostitutes in the area, or could something much more terrifying - and supernatural - be afoot?
One in a series of films made under the “Lucio Fulci presents” banner (originally developed under the title I maestri del thriller), which sought to capitalize on the name of Italy’s Godfather of Gore, MASSACRE is one of the standout entries in the cycle and a pleasingly lurid slasher effort helmed by Burial Ground director Andrea Bianchi. Far sleazier than many of its late 80s horror competitors and packed full of bare skin, lesbian intrigue and hack-and-slash action (not to mention a lively score from Luigi Ceccarelli, who virtually rehashed his music from Rats: Night of Terror), Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to unfurl MASSACRE in its UHD premiere, newly restored in 4K from its original 16mm camera negative and loaded with new special features.

Andrea Bianchi returns in sleaze opus
"It's probable that Lucio Fulci turned up at the office one day, asked for money from the producers of these films for one of his projects and they gave it to him on the provision that he would lend his name to these films. That's what I would like to think because they are way below in quality to what Fulci himself would be making even only 5 years ago. That said, if you like your films down 'n dirty, greasy, sleazy, a bit nonsensical and extremely gory, then Massacre is the title for you. I had a Dutch EC Entertainment DVD of this film for ages and it's almost redundant to say it but this restoration blows that one out of the water. A truly stellar release of a so-so film that's probably only worth it for diehard Italo-trash afficionado's."

Great, but. . .
"Awesome release of a dumb-as-f*ck movie, "Massacre" has never looked so great as here. There's tons of fascinatingly insightful extras on it, mostly curated by Italo-Godfather Eugenio Ercolani. Still, I think there was absolutely no need for it to be put out on UHD, since this was never been meant to look good, and in fact it just doesn't look good. The UHD here is more of a gimmick. It can't make the film look any better."

boring & chaotic
"This one wasn‘t for us. Me and my wife were just bored. 1 lil kill in the beginning followed by 60+ mInutes of nonsense and in the end you‘ll get some pretty lame stabbings. This film is just a stinker. We regret buying it. Nice picture quality & slipcover no doubt. But the content ,the film itself is just disappointing. Please Vinegar,bring us Dario Argento‘s Mother Of Tears & Peter Jackson‘s Dead Alive :)"
"Do NOT buy this. This is awful. I like a LOT of Italian horror, and a LOT from the 80s, and this is one of the worst I've ever seen. There's an opening kill where they show you most of the killer's face, and he cleaves off a woman's arm, and then head, with a rusty little axe, like she was made of papier-mâché or butter. Like the guy has a damn lightsaber or something. Following that scene, there's around 45 minutes of NOTHING happening. Just a bunch of vapid, unlikeable characters giving each other a hard time, squabbling, and committing infidelity at a hotel, while they try to film some dumb, bad film. The next kill that happens a long time later actually concludes OFFSCREEN, of all things. The plot makes NO SENSE. You'll care about NONE of these characters. There's a seance, a psychic, and possibly the spirit of Jack the ripper involved in this nonsense. Most of all this film is incredibly SLOW, tedious, and dull. This was VERY difficult just to make it through, and I had to stop and get away from it, then come back to it, to make it to the end. The last few minutes feature a few more kills, nothing of any note really, and add even further convoluted confusion to an already labyrinthine tangle of plot holes and absurdity. If you count the amount of shown or "revealed" killers in this film, it's AT LEAST 3, so this piece of shit is trying to be Scream a few years early, and doing a terrible job of it. A victim is bafflingly hauled away by police at the end, based on no real evidence, making one wonder why they don't defend themselves and simply explain what happened. And this goes for one of those twist/unresolved endings in the closing moments. This is just really bad, avoid it."
