Description

Gabrielle d'Annunzio’s passionate novel is brought to life in the final masterpiece from acclaimed director Luchino Visconti. In late-nineteenth century Italy, Tullio (Giancarlo Giannini), an insatiable aristocrat, grows bored with his timid wife Giuliana (Laura Antonelli) and neglects her for his more exciting mistress, the wealthy widow Countess Teresa Raffo (Jennifer O'Neill). My favorite Visconti

No one ever talks about this movie and I think it's better than many of his more famous films. This was his last film if I'm not mistaken. Giancarlo Giannini is so good. I would've bought the limited edition because I love the cover, but it was sold out. Standard edition still worth it. Excellent film.

    worthy swan song

a swan song worthy of one of our greatest filmmakers to ever do it. Melodramatic and impossibly lavish and enormous-feeling as always with Visconti. Required viewing for anyone who wants to understand film history, or also just loves excellent, ****, isanity.
