Keanu & Co.

THese were a lot of fun to watch. An equal mix of “that’s what they cared about then” with “that’s still going on nowadays”. Keanu is so young here, yet he has the presence already that made him a marquee name. Dan Lett and Stephen Mendel both are excellent in their episodes, as are the supporting players. The plots are typical tv, not quite puddle deep but not quite film study class mastery. The cinematography while basic is quite effective, and all of the settings are very slice of life and realistic. Very much a pleasure to watch. // The extra features are many, and they each are excellent. The interviews with Lett and Mendel discussing their careers are insightful both about their own careers and how the arc of career in acting tends to go overall. The shorts included are as good as the feature program. The booklet enclosed is a wonderful repro of a promotional pamphlet for the entire series of 6 episodes, great ephemera from the decade. The insert sleeve has a reversible sleeve with great art on both sides.

Anytime more Keanu can be had, it shall

Keanu & Co. is such a wonderfully specific little collection, gathering together some of Keanu Reeves' early Canadian work from before he became the star everyone knows. There is something really enjoyable about seeing him at this stage of his career, and the films themselves are an interesting snapshot of Canadian film and television that could very easily have disappeared into obscurity. Not everything here is equally memorable, but as a collection I found it fascinating and rather charming. This is the sort of archival release CIP does so well, taking material that might seem minor and making you appreciate why it is worth preserving.

Decent collection

Who doesn't love Keanu. Everybody should get this
