DEAD GIRLS
All-girl rock band, Dead Girls, have made a name - and plenty of controversy - for themselves by recording songs which glorify death and suicide. Denny, a young and handsome actor in surrealist theatre, is an object of desire for all who encounter him. When a young woman, with whom Denny has been having an affair, is found murdered, the police immediately suspect him of being her assailant. "Love the presentation of these films, even if they’re not the best movies. Only complaint is that the plastic slipcover protector that is supposedly made for this specific box is super snug and makes it hard to get it out when you want to watch one of them."
"This is exactly why I like the Home Grown Horrors sets. Moonstalker, Dead Girls, and Hanging Heart all come from that regional low-budget horror world, but none of them feel interchangeable. Moonstalker gives you the more traditional slasher setup, Dead Girls brings the grimy rock-band/video-store energy, and Hanging Heart is the weird one with a more stylized, almost giallo-ish personality. What makes the set work for me is how handmade everything feels. These aren’t slick studio slashers — they’ve got rough edges, strange performances, homemade effects, and a ton of personality. That’s exactly the stuff I want preserved instead of disappearing on some old VHS tape. Vinegar Syndrome also went way harder on the presentation than these movies probably ever expected 😂 All three were restored in 4K, and the set is loaded with commentaries, interviews, documentaries, and archival material. The Tom Hodge box artwork is killer too and looks great with the other volumes. Weird regional horror, stacked extras, and another great box for the shelf. Easy 5/5. 😁"
