In a forgotten pocket of Southern Ohio where American manufacturing and opportunity are dying up, a determined young woman finds a ticket out when she is accepted to college. Alongside her older brother, Ruth Avery joins a dangerous scrap metal crew in order to pay her way. Together, they spend one brutal winter working the scrap yards during the day and stealing valuable metal from the once thriving factories at night. With her goal in sight, Ruth finds that the ultimate cost for an education for a girl like her may be more than she bargained for, and she soon finds herself torn between a promising future and the family she would leave behind.

"The film itself is good. The dialogue sometimes lacks subtlety, which has the drawback of constantly reminding us that it's a scripted screenplay, but overall, the characters are all very believable, so we quickly get drawn back in. The film's real strength lies in its cast and filming locations. We can feel all the beauty, but also the kind of despair tinged with resignation that pervades both the different places and the characters who live there. Unlike what is the norm in regular American films, here the people don't all have model-like faces. Many have the looks and appearance that go with the social position they are supposed to occupy, which I personally appreciated a lot. The lead actress is endearing, and her nuanced performance is perfect for the role. Her story makes us reflect on the sometimes unjustly difficult fate reserved for small industrial towns in the northern United States and their inhabitants."
"A moving, thought provoking social realist drama in a great edition with spotless A/V, adequate supplements and beautiful slipcover. One of the best indo flick I have seen lately."
"Another solid release with exceptional packaging."
