Kevin just got hired to be the assistant night watchman at an old film vault. Warned to stay out of one mysterious chamber, the rookie guard can't help but satisfy his curiosity and unwittingly unleashes a group of hobgoblins: furry aliens who grant people wishes only to kill them in the process. As the body count starts to rise, Kevin, with the help of his friends, decide to track down the deadly creatures before they wreak havoc on the city.

Director Rick Sloane's cult classic and Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan favorite is a sleazy, low rent tribute to creature features and drive-in fare. Long available only in tape-sourced editions, Vinegar Syndrome presents HOBGOBLINS on Blu-ray newly restored from its original 35mm camera negative.

Reviews

I know they were trying for bad, but I've seen worse

"Synopsis: Weakling Kevin starts a new job as a night security guard for a once successful but now abandoned movie studio. For the past 30 years it's been up to Old Man McCreedy to watch the studio and the secrets that live within its walls, more precisely its film vault. For you see there be HOBGOBLINS in them there vaults and they are malevolent little aliens, with very non-expressive faces, that can make your wildest dreams come true for a price (your life). After a robbery gone awry they escape and McCreedy asks that the new security guard look for them. He tells them they are attracted to bright lights and luckily Kevin's friends are having a Much Music Video Dance Party at their house complete with a light show. They are attacked/tricked by the Hobgoblins and now Kevin has to face his fears and prove to his girlfriend that he is not the wimp she thinks he is before they all get killed. Review: Obviously trying to cash in on the Gremlins, and to a lesser extent Ghoulies, fame Hobgoblins never really takes off like it should. All of the pieces are there for a self-proclaimed "Disasterpiece" but the direction the story is lame goes and the potential the little beasts have is never really fulfilled. Carnage Count 1/5 Sleaze Score 1/5"

Not good, but so good

"Stupid, silly cash-in on the Gremlins fad, while managing to make so much less sense and still kick ass. That ending, man."

Kelsey G. (5/5)

80's and Hobgoblins are here again

"Great release and packaging. Movie itself wasn't for me, but I still appreciate that this is available in Blu-ray for fans to enjoy."

Matti J. (3/5)

Hobgoblins

"This the kinda cheese you catch on basic cable during a fit of insomnia and it gets you questioning whether or not you actually watched it or if you imagined it and you should really reset your sleep schedule. Needless to say, if that's your vibe, find a way to watch this."

Cody G. (4/5)

Hobgoblins

"Love this movie! So happy to have snagged a copy. So much fun"

Emily P. (5/5)

Superb low-budget fun

"I loved watching this - very entertaining, some cringey dialog (which adds to the fun). Reminds me of the likes of Gremlins and the Critters films. Well worth watching - though now out of print."

Andrea M. (5/5)

A MST3K classic in it’s original format

"As a huge fan of MST3K, this was a must purchase for me at its discount price during the 4/20 sale. Gotta love a bad but entertaining movie in all of its glory. The special effects alone make this cheap Gremlins rip off worth the price of admission."

Brent B. (4/5)

Its nothing like Gremlins

"Gremlins is a great movie, this is not."

Daniel M. (2/5)

Joseph Z. (5/5)

Stupid but fun

"This is a stupid piece of crap and it's also pretty entertaining. Schlocky slapstick trash with weird little doll creatures and possibly the corniest cast I've ever seen. I get that it's awful, but I also had a good time watching it and it'll be more fun with friends and beers."
