Hoagie

Fun anarchy like Bad Taste

Comedy release flick

A mixed bag for me, coming from someone who usually eats up dumbshit puppet movies. Half of the humor works for me and I had fun with those bits, and the other half is the twee-vulgar-quirk bullshit born of internet humor and I can't stand it. It's the kind of humor that is childish but is supposed to be funny because the word "****" or something gets tossed into it. Killed the momentum for me every time.

Hoagie is a quirky indie film that wins you over with its offbeat humor and genuine personality. It has a playful sense of fun throughout, never taking itself too seriously while still delivering an engaging story with memorable characters.

The movie is an absolute blast when you embrace its unconventional style. Its charm comes from its creativity and enthusiasm, making it the kind of film that feels made with passion rather than a big budget.

The practical effects fit the tone perfectly. They have a handmade quality that adds to the film’s personality and reinforces its independent spirit instead of trying to imitate larger productions.

Overall, Hoagie is an entertaining, energetic watch that rewards viewers looking for something a little different.

Absolutely bizarre in the best Art Label way. A magical homunculus, militia chaos, goopy practical effects, and a full love letter to the “little *******” creature-feature tradition. Sounds like the exact kind of handmade oddity that should not exist, but thankfully does.
