Winter horror gem
"This campy winter horror gem is an absolute riot. Vinegar Syndrome did a killer job with the presentation on this release. The sound and picture quality are top notch. High recommend to pick this up during the next sale."
This listing is for the standard edition Blu-ray. The limited edition slipcover (designed by Chris Barnes) was limited to 5,000 units and is sold out. The two versions are identical, aside from the slipcover.
Long ago, the mighty Wendigo was defeated and buried in a secret place known only to a select individual tasked with protecting this unholy ground, lest it be revived from the grave. When two arrogant hunters, Gary and Dave, stumble upon the Wendigo’s final resting place and kill its elderly protector, they unknowingly revive the ancient demon, which gorily dispatches Dave. Taking refuge with another group of hunters in a nearby cabin, the posse are set upon by all sorts of ghoulish creatures, not the least of which is the Wendigo itself. Meanwhile, a young woman named Sandy begins to experience visions telling her that she must now kill the Wendigo…
From the snowy wilds of Michigan, Tom Chaney’s FROSTBITER (aka WENDIGO) is a highly ambitious indie horror gem which, inexplicably, remained nearly unreleased (save for some local screenings) for the better part of a decade following its late 80s production. Featuring clever use of miniatures, highly stylized camerawork and editing, frequent gore, and loads of wintry atmosphere, Vinegar Syndrome is overjoyed to at last debut this folk horror infused regional creature feature on Blu-ray, newly restored in 2K from its 16mm camera negative and bursting with extras that are sure to rip your head off!

"From the minute the stop-motion beast attacks the miniature plane, you know you're in a safe hands. This is a real surprise- an absolute riot of regional horror that might be my new favourite cult oddity. The artwork nails the vibe- it's wah-wah guitars and OTT performances as far as the eye can see. Its like someone turned Evil Dead II up to 11. The disc is stacked with interviews and a great commentary. A strong recommend"
"So bad it’s so, so good! Absolutely had a blast with this bizarre horror flick. There’s a ton of creativity oozing out of it, from the camerawork to the effects, and the acting might as well be out of a bad anime dub. Not a bad way to spend my night! Love the artwork, and can’t wait to dive into the wealth of special features on here."
"Great atmosphere in this as I always love some snow setting horror movies. Slipcase looks great as usual."
"Chili demons! Legitimately fun puppets and stop motion animation. Bad acting, of course, but that only enhances the vibes, as does the incessant music (sometimes the songs are about chili). A very cozy movie."
"Bought because I'm a fan of Evil Dead, and it definitely wears it's influence on it's sleeve (and a wall!). More funny than scary, but lots of great and gross effects on display. My only complaint is that although the soundtrack is fun, nearly every conversation is drowned out by the music playing excessively loud over the dialog. Not perfect, but I recommend it!"
"Frostbiter is the little film that could, a clear ode to Evil Dead but very much taking on a life of its own with the incorporation of the Wendigo mythos. There's dodgy acting, strange music, unexpected gore, and even stop-motion effects. What it lacks in polish, it certainly makes up for in ambition and heart. It's just the kind of unexpected wonder you hope VS will somehow continue to unearth."
"Never heard of this movie until I stumbled on it at the last VS sale. What a gem! Looks great and so happy to have this to revisit!"
"A super fun kitchen sink movie, with lots of creative efforts for a low budget flick that wears its Evil Dead influence badge proudly The over the top acting and gore only further enhance the enjoyment."
"A beautiful transfer for this wickedly odd flick! Drenched in bizarre sequences and other worldly practical effects, Vinegar Syndrome breathes new life into this bizarre horror production! A+++"
