Fire Maidens of Outer Space

The restoration looked good on a Sony Z9D75 through a Panasonic UB900P1K and a McIntosh MX180 processor.

The extras were a pleasant surprise. The movie itself is a 'Plan 9 type' quality movie. I got a kick out of script lines such as 'check your Longines Space Watches'. And then there is the Longines wall clock hanging in the 'spaceship'. The packaging and blu-ray case is excellent.

Interesting as a curiosity of 50’s sci-fi, but the film itself is mostly a bore with wooden acting and plot. Go in with low expectations and you might find some mild amusement here.

By the time the rocket lands on the moon of Jupiter, however, the tiny budget seems to have been completely exhausted. A tacky-looking monster—wearing a sweater, no less—wanders around there, but otherwise, the whole affair is remarkably uneventful. Still charming, in a way.

Cheapest of the Cheap 50s Sci-Fi fodder. New rescan is excellent, very clean.

Johnathan Rigby and Kevin Lyons commentary is worth the price of this release alone. The second one is a "Rifftrax" style one I immediately stopped listening to due to how poorly mixed it was. If i was mixed properly I might give it a shot, but for a movie whose modern audience will only know it from the MST3K episode, it feels superfluous. Both video essays are also great.

Weird how Paramount insisted on a region lock on this minuscule movie.

Great to see this low budget sci/fi thriller in HD DVD. It's a pretty bad movie but I'm a fan of shoe-string budget monster movies. Rated it 4 stars because it's such a bad movie but it was nice and clear and the audio was excellent as well. Service by Vinegar Syndrome was great!
