FACES OF DEATH II is part of our Vinegar Syndrome Archive collection, celebrating forgotten cinematic oddities from the video store era. This collection was inspired by our own brick & mortar video stores, with locations in Bridgeport, CT, Denver, CO, Toronto, ON, and Pittsburgh, PA.

Unique to this line, each numbered limited edition release will come fitted in a specially designed, bottom loading VHS inspired slipcase, while also including a double-sided poster.

These releases will ONLY be available on our website and at participating indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them. This spot gloss slipcase edition (designed by Steak Mtn.) is strictly limited to 3,333 units. This release may (but probably not) be followed by a standard edition in the future.

Following a well-needed two-year hiatus, the erudite Dr. Francis B. Gröss returns to further ponder and expose the mysteries of death. Hardly content with his initial morbid surveys of the forbidden, rarely discussed topic of how life ends, he pushes further to show nature's wintry grasp on life, how finality arrives in the boxing ring, and other lethal sights so shockingly primal they beg to be seen. Enthusiastically expanding his sweeping investigations on crime and human atrocities, Gröss paints a shattering and unparalleled portrait of mortality.

Following the unprecedented success of its shocking predecessor, the filmmakers behind Faces of Death created a film even more unsettling in its stark and unflinching realism, offering an even deeper descent into the depravity and savagery of humanity with FACES OF DEATH II (1981). From fatal accidents to the unspeakable cruelty of war, medical experiments, and other abominable acts too heinous to describe, no facet of man’s destruction of his fellow man is left unexplored. Vinegar Syndrome Archive reluctantly brings this even more notorious sequel to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, presented in its fully uncut and uncensored original theatrical version, available for the first time on video in the US, newly restored from its 35mm negative.

The Definitive Release?

"Vinegar Syndrome brings one of the most notorious titles in history to 4k in what feels like it might be the most essential edition of the film to date. Not only is it a pristine transfer, and stuffed with commentaries and special features, but we now get Faces of Death completely uncut on home video for the first time! Highly recommended!"

Faces of Death

"stellar, definitive restoration that drastically improves upon its gritty origins while remaining entirely faithful to the source material. Critics and boutique physical media enthusiasts agree that the video transfer is exceptionally strong, breathing unexpected clarity into the notorious shockumentary."

Brian G. (4/5)

Exploitation cult classic

"This is such a cool new limited edition of a controversial exploitation classic. The movie is infamously a right of passage for 90s kids, because at the time, it was banned in several countries, and everyone thought all of the scenes were real. The artwork on this release, and in the booklet is amazing. Happy to own this."

Michael B. (5/5)

Amazing Transfer

"If the video store you were in had Faces Of Death on the shelf, the place was cool. Watching this abomination in 4k was like being born again. Everything about this release is incredible. The slipcase, the book, the stickers, the extras, and the artwork will be celebrated for years. If ever there was a physical release to own, it's this. I am in awe. You will be too."

FUCKING. LEGEND. ARY!!!

"The most complete, highest quality reproduction I could have possibly hoped for. Absolutely stunning quality and a treasure trove of BTS footage, information, and extras that shed a whole new light on an almost mythic piece of my childhood. Immense praise to VS and everyone involved in the restoration for their incredible work!"

Classic Film Reimagined!

"The peerless VS restoration process was on full display with stellar sound and picture! Thank you, VS, for continuing to lovingly restore and release so many wonderful films from every conceivable genre! You are keeping physical media alive in this streaming world we now live in! Highly recommended!"

The absolute shit

"Almost guaranteed to be my favorite release of 2026. Regardless of whether you like the movie or not, I think it's an undeniably interesting and unique film ehich consistently treads the line of hilarity and upsetting tastelesness. To have this in such a premium box with a cool looking booklet, a poster, interesting extras and a great 4k scan brings me great joy. Some of the autopsy scenes look kind of stunning and bizarre in 4k with all of that delicious film grain."

Teun H. (5/5)

Stunning!

"I was amazed and very pleasantly surprised when I saw that VS was releasing this, and fully uncut as well - so i very swiftly preordered it. My only previous viewing had been clips and a cut version on a certain website where numerous videos are available. This film was on the UK ‘video nasties’ list for years and was oroginally banned, but eventually was passed for release with cuts made (such as the ‘monkey brains” sequence). This release from VS is a revelation especially in 4K. The extras are on the included blu-ray disc and provide very interesting background and insights. Superb packaging and artwork."

Andrea M. (5/5)

Wow

"Didn’t think faces of death could ever get a better release but holy hell this is by far the best your gonna get for this film. . amazing transfer and package awesome extras! Very cool! If you’re a fan be sure to snag this one up before they are gone! Love it!"

Billy B. (5/5)

Worth it

"I’m glad I bought this release. The film itself is hit or miss, with some great segments and other segments that simply don’t work, but this release is great. I love the packaging, the extras alone are over the top and make the money worth it, and this is the best this film will probably ever look, which is both a positive but also could be viewed as a negative since it’s such an infamous VHS film."
