Explorers

Very unexpected released for me, and even better, it gets the full Vinegar Syndrome Ultra treatment it deserves with a gorgeous new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision HDR. The image looks spectacular, with the film’s colorful production design, practical effects and cosmic sequences given an incredible level of detail and depth. Both the theatrical and home-video versions are included, making this a superb upgrade for fans of this beloved piece of ’80s sci-fi adventure.

And the extras are just as impressive: this 3-disc set includes a new 77-minute documentary, The Thunder Road: Making Explorers, featuring interviews with Joe Dante, Eric Luke, Mike Finnell, Robert Picardo, ILM artists and previously unseen behind-the-scenes interviews with Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix; the 2021 making-of A Science Fiction Fairy Tale, deleted scenes with Joe Dante’s commentary, the original electronic press kit, trailers, a 1976 short by screenwriter Eric Luke, commentary by the Movie Oubliette podcast, a still gallery and a 40-page booklet in the limited edition. A truly spectacular Vinegar Syndrome Ultra release.

I’m so ecstatic to finally have this amazing special edition of a Joe Dante classic.

VS brings us another Shout UHD upgrade, but this time it's special, as the new 4K transfer corrects the wrong, stretched aspect ratio from the previous Blu-Ray. The new restoration looks phenomenal of course.

This is not my favorite Joe Dante film, but it's clearly got his signature all over it, although the studio tampered with his vision and he didn't get final cut.

There is a ton of new special features, including a new feature length retrospective documentary, which I am looking forward to watch.

Great restoration and release with some cool bonus features

Haven’t watched this copy yet but excited to relive the childhood experience of this
