Since 2004, Bleeding Skull has explored otherworldly cinema through reviews, books, and home video releases. We shine a light on independent genre films that have flown under the radar but deserve to be seen by all. Fangoria has called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds". Indebted to David Lynch's ERASERHEAD, Ed Wood's PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE, and Frank Henenlotter's BRAIN DAMAGE, DISEMBODIED is a cinematic acid trip that blurs the line between horror and experimental art. The story follows Connie Sproutz, a gothed-out scientist who checks into the decrepit Grand Hotel to continue her experiments . . . and turn people into slime before eating them. Shot in Reno by director Willam Kersten on gritty 16mm film, this D.I.Y. passion project is filled with stop motion effects, gory body horror, and surrealist visuals. Bleeding Skull is honored to present a new 4K restoration of the original, uncut version of DISEMBODIED on disc for the first time ever—complete with a science lab full of extras and multiple versions of the film.

"Now this was my jam, surreal zero budget weirdness."
"Movie: Plenty of goopy effects, and it's great to see more women in (Mad) STEM, but I was hoping for more of a payoff with the dream symbolism in the end. Also dragged down by a few scenes of bad acting/writing that's not quite bad enough to be interesting. Extras: All the extra VHS stuff was great. The interview was solid. I love that this includes the original trailers that were on the tape before the movie starts. <2016 Director's Cut> Unfortunately an inferior version of the movie. The opening title is arguably an improvement, but the main difference in this cut is that the dream sequences have been redone w/ CGI and I found them _way_ less compelling than in the original. Maybe in another decade this particular era of computer graphics will give a better feeling, but even then I think it will feel anachronistic b/c it doesn't match the rest of the movie. The other noticeable difference is the use of visual enhancements to distort the image in a few places to make things look more like they're pulsating. It's fine when it's a subtle effect, but too often I found it distracting. Book: Neat cover design, and cool to have BTS photos, but the essay was honestly pretty forgettable. Packaging: Looks great, and bonus points for reversible cover."
"Vinegar Syndrome always delivers on the restoration side, especially for a grimy, micro-budget underground flick like this. The disc features excellent archival extras that perfectly contextualize the bizarre stop-motion effects."
"Great weird film High-effort low-budget horror The 4k looks good"
"Singular, surrealist, art-horror madness from director William Kersten. Blind-bought this off-the-back of reading some fantastic reviews of it, and I'm so glad I did. Bleeding Skull have done an incredible job with the 4K restoration. Never knew a SOV movie could look this damn good."
"Glad we finally got a much better presentation of this film than the previous blu-ray without the new added in scenes. Presentation looks great and the movie is a well deserved cult classic."
"This surreal DIY body-horror trip is an absolute masterpiece of underground trash cinema."
"Never expected this to hit 4k. Great sleazy body horror movie. Recommended to fans of Frank Hennenlotter."
