This is a great directorial debut! This film has everything I like out of a film; real themes, notable visuals, genuine characters. I would love to see her remake Tank Girl.

Very interesting to see the first from Cathy Yan, a very interesting voice in the last decades of Chinese cinema.

If you've only seen Cathy Yan's (disappointing) DCU movie Birds of Prey, then you really aren't prepared for Dead Pigs. This is a deeply strange, funny, and oddly moving picture about life along the Yangtze River in Shanghai - I'd say it's kinda like a (more) surreal Magnolia, but that doesn't really convey what's really special about the film. The Blu-ray looks and sounds phenomenal, too.
