Memories are a funny thing. Some of my earliest birthdays and life events were captured in photographs. The memory may fade but the photograph remains. The captured image becomes the memory.
In Victor Erice's CLOSE YOUR EYES, our memories live in dented and dusty film canisters, piled up to the ceiling of the storeroom of our minds. Those memories can be accessed at any moment with the pop of a latch but sometimes we lose the facilities to project those images.
The film is romantic about cinema without ever glamourising some absolute truth hidden in the flickering pictures. Erice only proposes that those images may be as close as we can get and sometimes the clearest pictures only appear when we close our eyes.
Keep your eyes open for this one, though. Just astounding things happening here.

Excellent movie, it's a great way to close a storied career, feels like a personal film, just wish it was shot on actual film (it has some of that smooth digital movement at times). The movie does not feel like its' length as you are too engrossed to notice.
The look of the blu-ray/encoding is great, haven't had the chance to catch any of the extras.
