Butcher's Bluff embraces the straightforward appeal of independent slasher cinema, with an ominous killer, gruesome practical effects, and a story built around uncovering the truth behind a local legend.
The movie clearly has affection for old-school horror and doesn't try to hide its independent roots. That works in its favor, particularly when it comes to the practical gore and creature effects, which give the kills a tactile quality that fits the throwback approach.
There's enough mystery surrounding the Butcher to keep the story moving between the more violent sequences, and the Texas setting gives the film an appropriately grimy atmosphere.
Overall, Butcher's Bluff is a fun pick for horror fans who enjoy practical effects, regional filmmaking, and unapologetically ****** slashers.
- DBDustin B.Verified Buyer1 month agoRated 3 out of 5 starsApes all of the expected
Apes all of the expected slasher tropes, but at least does them more commendably than the hundreds of Tubi dwellers are capable of. It's all overwhelmingly average, which would be fine enough for those wanting simple slashers, but the bloat is egregious and. knocks it down a few pegs. Moments such as providing a kill scene for ******* Coolduder could easily have been jettisoned.
