Burning Paradise is awesome. Ringo Lam takes the wuxia formula and drags it somewhere much darker, nastier, and more violent than I expected. The Red Lotus Temple is basically a giant underground death trap, and once Fong Sai-Yuk gets thrown into that nightmare the movie barely lets up. (vinegarsyndrome. com)
The fights are fast and brutal, the flying-guillotine stuff rules, and I love how the movie mixes martial arts with dark fantasy and almost horror-level imagery. It still has that Hong Kong energy, but there’s a mean streak running through it that makes it stand apart from a lot of wuxia from the same era.
The 2K restoration from the original 35mm negative looks great too — plenty of detail and color without killing the film texture. And that Tony Stella slipcover? Absolutely killer. This is one of those releases where the artwork alone would’ve caught my attention, but thankfully the movie backs it up. (vinegarsyndrome. com)
Violent, stylish, weird as ****, and a blast. Easy 5/5 for me. 😁

The Burning Paradise slipcover is absolutely gorgeous. Tony Stella has such a distinctive style, and his artwork feels made for a film this colorful and energetic. I love that VS continues to give him these commissions. Another amazing piece of artwork from one of my favorite poster artists.

You can't go wrong with 80s Ringo Lam
- BGBrian G.Verified Buyer1 month agoRated 5 out of 5 starsRingo Lam's only Wuxia film
Burning Paradise may be a significant departure from Lam's usual settings/genre, but his exciting, kinetic style of ****** action remains at the forefront of this movie. The subterranean temple/dungeon that much of the movie takes place in creates a unique, almost-apocalyptic atmosphere for what is one of the more unique films based on folk hero Fong Sai-Yuk. The transfer is vibrant and crisp, with colors having a nice pop throughout the movie. This is an easy recommendation for fans of Hong Kong, Wuxia and Ringo Lam!
